Abstract : The Gauge-Uzawa nite element method (GU-FEM)[3] is a fully discrete projection type methodto solve the evolution Navier-Stokes equations, which overcomes many shortcomings of projectionmethods and displays superior numerical performance. Since Gauge-Uzawa is consistentwith Navier-Stokes equations, it can be applied easily to more complicate uid problems [4,6]and the normal mode solution shows full accuracy without spurious boundary layer term forsmooth solutions in contrast other projection type methods [7]. In addition, it is an unconditionallystable scheme [3]. However, we have only suboptimal accuracy via the energy estimatewhich has been proved in [3].
