It was recently proved that the signature of a path of bounded variation uniquely determines the path up to tree-like equivalence. A natural question then is how one can reconstruct the tree-reduced path from its signature. I will give an explicit formula for the case of axis paths, and discuss some recent progress for more general paths of bounded variation.
